Russian warplanes target Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Russian warplanes launched new air strikes on the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria, while the areas south of Idlib witnessed continued mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition factions.
North Press reported opposition military sources saying the Russian warplanes targeted sites of the Syrian opposition on the outskirts of the town of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, with high-explosive missiles.
The Russian air strikes coincided with artillery and missile shelling by the Syrian government forces on the factions in the villages and towns of Benin, Fatterah, Fleifel, Deir Sunbul, Kansafra and the outskirts of al-Bara, south of Idlib, from their positions in the surrounding checkpoints, the sources added.
The bombing caused material damage to public and private properties, and coincided with the intense flight of Russian drones over the targeted areas.
Meanwhile, the Syrian opposition factions announced the targeting of government forces’ positions in the village of al-Malaja and Dar al-Kabira near Kafr Nabl, south of Idlib.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
