Tents burnt in Hawl Camp, International Red Cross staff was attacked

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, three tents were burnt in one of the sectors of the foreigners in Hawl Camp, east of Hasakah, northeast Syria.

This came hours after unknown individuals attacked a car of the International Red Cross, while being in the seventh sector of the camp, which houses displaced Syrians. An Ethiopian employee was injured in the incident.

“The fire was put out without causing casualties,” a security source in the camp told North Press.

“The preliminary information indicates that the fire was intentionally started and investigations are still being done,” the source added.

“An Ethiopian employee, who works for the International Red Cross, was also moderately injured after their car was attacked in the seventh sector of the camp,” the source noted.

This comes after a series of incidents in the camp, the first of which was the killing of a nurse working in the medical point of the Kurdish Red Crescent in the camp by gunfire yesterday. Most of the organizations operating in the camp also suspended their activities, today, Wednesday, with the exception of life-saving activities of water and food.

The Hawl Camp is a house for about 15,650 families in total of 57,516 individuals including 2,423 families of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) detained or killed militants, who hail from over than 60 countries.
