Child Protection Office in Syria’s Hasakah hands over minors to their families
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, two minors were brought back to their families by the Child Protection Office in Armed Conflicts in Hasakah, northeast Syria.
The website of the Social Affairs and Labor Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) published on its Facebook account, that the Relations Office of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) disengaged two minors from the ranks of its forces, and handed them over to the Child Protection Office in Hasakah.
“The Child Protection Office in Hasakah handed over the minors Abdullah Rustum and Haidera Rustum, who are from the city of Derik, to their families,” it added.
The office follows up the received complaints by children’s families and accordingly it communicates with the military units.
The Child Protection Office was activated in October 2020. This step came after an agreement signed by the SDF Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi, with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of underage children and their use as combatants in armed conflicts.
Since then, the SDF has been working to end minor’s being involved in military forces and disengage those who are currently engaged in.
“The number of minors who were handed over to their families through the Child Protection Office has come up to 620,” the office said in a statistic seen by North Press.
