Syria’ AANES to hand over Russian children of ISIS to Moscow
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – ISIS children of Russian nationality will be handed over to a Russian delegation tomorrow, Thursday, the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Wednesday.
A Russian delegation headed by Maria Lvova Belova, Children’s Rights Commissioner for the President of Federal Russia, is visiting Syria.
Earlier today, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received the Russian delegation in Damascus, and the two sides discussed the issue of Russian children in Hawl and Roj camps in northeast Syria.
“During the meeting, talks dealt with the issue of children in Hawl and Roj camps, and the two sides discussed the Syrian-Russian joint steps and efforts to get those children out of the camps,” the official website of the Presidency of the Syrian government.
Al-Assad stressed that although this issue is primarily a humanitarian one, it is politically invested by the West with the aim of maintaining these camps as incubator for terrorism and extremist ideology.
In parallel with the evacuation of the children, work should be done to close these inhuman camps permanently, al-Assad added.
Commissioner Belova, in turn, stressed the importance of developing mechanisms of cooperation between the institutions and bodies in Syria and Russia regarding this issue and mobilizing all potentials and exchanging expertise with the aim of reintegrating and rehabilitating the Russian and Syrian children who are coming out of these camps.
