Coalition denies attack on al-Tanf US military base in Syria’s east

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The spokesman of the Public Affairs of CJTF-OIR, Col, Joel Harper denied on Sunday any attack that targeted al-Tanf military base, eastern Syria.

This came after media outlets published news about two explosions, they said, had occurred at the site known as the 55 Area.

Harper told North Press that he had not received any reports of attacks on al-Tanf base on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Media outlets reported that two explosions rocked the 55 Area, where al-Tanf military base of the Global Coalition is located.

Al-Tanf military base, southeast Syria, is located near the borders with Iraq and Jordan and it was established by the US-led Global Coalition in the context of its war against the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).

Earlier, the Syrian state-run news agency, SANA, reported that several explosions were heard inside the US base in al-Tanf area in the eastern countryside of Homs.

In mid-July, a US defense official told Reuters that indirect fire had targeted US forces in eastern Syria.

Last week, the defenses of the Global Coalition bases repelled drones’ attacks on al-Omar oil field in eastern Syria, which includes the headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and a base for the Global Coalition.
