Tribal infighting kills young man in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A person succumbed to his injuries in tribal infighting in the town of Gharanij, 90 km east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
An eyewitness told North Press that the 17-year-old Ahmad Mahmoud al-Nahar died in a clan infighting that broke out yesterday afternoon between al-Hassani and al-Hamhoum families in the town.
Al-Nahar was taken to a hospital in the city of Hasakah immediately, but he died upon arrival due to a severe head injury, according to his family.
He added that al-Nahar was repairing his motorcycle at the scene of the clash, in the middle of the town’s market.
He stated that machine guns were used in the infighting in the town’s market so that the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) set up barriers to separate the two parties and settle the dispute completely.
The reason for the infighting was due to an old dispute over the pretext of revenge, according to residents of the town.
Recently, Deir ez-Zor countryside has witnessed tribe-based family quarrels and fights, which caused more deaths and injuries.
On 14 November, a little girl died of her injury from a stray bullet as a result of a family quarrel in the town of al-Shuhail, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
