Russia bombarded posts of opposition factions in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Russian warplanes bombarded posts of the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions in different areas of Idlib, northwest Syria.

The Russian warplanes targeted the opposition fortifications in the villages and towns of San, Majdalya, and Sarmin, in the eastern countryside of Idlib, with missile and several airstrikes, military sources of the opposition told North Press.

As a result of the shelling, a woman lost her life and three others were wounded, the sources added.

The Russian airstrikes coincided with artillery shelling by Syrian government forces against the factions’ gatherings in the villages of Sfuhen and al-Fatirah, south of Idlib, the sources noted.

Meanwhile, the opposition factions targeted the government’s military posts on the frontlines in the town of Hizarin and the village of Milaja, in the southern countryside of Idlib, according to the sources.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
