New batch of Syrian IDPs leaves Syria’s Hawl Camp

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – A new batch of 19 Syrian families, numbering 65 people, left Hawl camp, east of Hasakah, northeast Syria, towards their areas in the countryside of Hasakah, yesterday.

This is the 20th batch under the initiative of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and the tribal sheikhs to get the Syrians out of the camp, co-chair of Hawl Camp administration, Alan Ismail, said.

This is the second batch to head towards Hasakah and its countryside following the decision issued by the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) to evacuate the camp of those Syrians who want to leave, according to Ismail.

“We will go ahead in evacuating Syrian families that want to leave the camp according to a certain method,” he noted.

In October 2020, the Executive Council of the AANES decided to evacuate Syrian families who want to leave the camp following an initiative by the SDC and tribal sheikhs.

About 15,631 families have remained in the camp, a total number of about 57,501 people, including 2,448 families of foreign Islamic State (ISIS) dead and detainees, who come from more than 60 countries according Ismail.

The Hawl Camp is known as a “ticking time bomb” due to the presence of extremists of ISIS wives and children, and tens of thousands of their supporters in a camp sometimes described as “the most dangerous camp in the world.”

It has witnessed many killing incidents, during the current year; most of them were carried out via silencer weapons.

With the new trip, the number of families that evacuated the camp has come up to 1,245 families including 4,614 people.
