Mine blew up in tractor in Syria’s Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – While plowing agricultural land in the western countryside of Kobani, north Syria, a tractor driver was injured by a mine explosion on Wednesday.

Sheikho Rammo Karaf, 20, was seriously injured, when a landmine blew up in his tractor near the village of Zor Maghar in the western countryside of Kobani, a local source told North Press.

Karaf was transported to Kobani Hospital, and then to a hospital in Manbij because of his serious condition, the source added.

On September, two children lost their lives by a mine explosion while grazing sheep in the village of Seftek, 10 km west of Kobani, near the Syrian-Turkish border.

The mines in Kobani and its countryside date back to the period when ISIS attacked the city, or they were planted at different times on the Syrian-Turkish border.

In a similar incident, a 15-year-old child lost his life in the explosion of a remnant of war bomb while grazing sheep in the village of Kark, southeast of Kobani, on May 31.

On August 3, Roj Mine Control Organization (RMCO) removed 51 shells and war remnants from ISIS in the western countryside of Kobani, north Syria.

RMCO, Roj Mine Control Organization, is a local non-governmental, non-profit organization that was established at the end of 2016, and works in coordination with the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, to remove mines and remnants of war in the regions of northeast Syria and raise awareness of their dangers.
