Residents of north Syria’s Tel Abyad demand the release of detainees

TEL ABYAD, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, northern Syria, protested, on Wednesday, to demand the release of detainees whose fate is still unknown in the prisons of the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions.

Dozens of residents of Tel Abyad organized a protest calling for the release of detainees whose fate is still unknown, North Press reported an informed source in Tel Abyad.

The source added that the protesters stood for two hours at the al-Alam Roundabout without any reaction from the Turkish-backed local council or the responsible authorities.

The detainees are of the residents of Tel Abyad and its countryside, and they do not belong to any military or political parties, according to the source.

Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed factions have been running the city of Tel Abyad and parts of its countryside since October 2019, after a military operation named “Peace Spring”.

Those areas run by the factions and supervised by Turkish military security authorities are witnessing broad-scale violations and attempts at Turkification, according to international and local reports.
