Damascus should accept AANES’ decisions: Syrian politician

SHADDADI, Syria (North press) – Syrian government should accept the decisions of the Autonomous Administration of North East Syria (AANES) that serve northeastern Syria, a Syrian politician from Shaddadi, south of Hasakah, said on Wednesday.

In an exclusive interview with North Press, Abdullah al-Aziz, added that the dialogue between the AANES and the Syrian government is the best solution to stop Turkish threats and violations against the areas of northeastern Syria.

On Tuesday, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, discussed the Syrian settlement with Ilham Ahmad, the President of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) in Moscow.

The situation in northeast Syria in particular and in Syria in general was discussed, as special attention was given to the task of activating the political settlement in Syria based on UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254, rehabilitating its economy, the social side, returning refugees and displaced persons, and providing humanitarian aid to those in need, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement said.

Al-Aziz pointed out that if there is serious negotiation and dialogue between the AANES and the government, it will bring great positives to the region, most notably protecting the region from Turkish threats and seeking to resolve the Syrian crisis.

He stressed that dialogue is the best solution that is in the interest of the region in general.

On November 22, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said in a statement that the Syrian government exploits Turkish threats to take control over northeast Syria’s regions.

“Syrian government is not ready for any political settlement in Syria,” the SDF statement added.”

On November 20, tribal dignities of Raqqa called on the Syrian government to begin negotiations with AANES to participate in solving the Syrian crisis, through joining it in the process of drafting the new Syrian constitution.Reporting by Basem Shweikh
