Organization documents cases of violence against women in Syria’s Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – We have documented dozens of cases of violence against women in the town of Sirrin, 40 km south of Kobani, north Syria, an administrative official of an organization to eliminate violence against women said on Sunday.
The speech of the official of the Sara Organization to Combat Violence against Women came on the occasion of the opening of its center in the town of Sirrin, which coincided with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, marking November 25 of each year.
“We have had about 30 documented cases this year, most of them beatings and harming,” said Asma Mahmoud from Sara organization.
“There have been cases of killing and suicide, but they are less than beating and harming. I hope every woman comes to us and we will try to help her,” she added.
In an exclusive interview with North Press, Mahmoud said, “The women are subject to patriarchal authority and cannot talk or complain.”
She pointed out that women in the countryside are exposed to violence more than women in the city due to the lack of the educational awareness, and the nature of “the tribal society.”
The organization will work to document cases of violence against women, and will help and support them in all respects, according to Muhammad.
It is noteworthy that the Sarah Organization to Combat Violence against Women was established in the city of Qamishli on July 01, 2013, and it opened a bureau in the city of Kobani in November 2015.
