SDC holds seminar to discuss war effects on Syrian women
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, feminist activists and Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) discussed the effects of the Syrian war on women, in the city of Raqqa, north Syria.
“Women are the most affected group of the society in the decade of the ongoing Syrian war,” said Dabbiya al-Naser, an administrative official of the SDC Women’s Bureau.
The SDC bears upon itself the responsibility to remove the effects of the war on Syrian women, whether in northeast Syria or in other Syrian regions, al-Naser added.
The violence committed against women in Syria has increased dramatically during the war due to the political and economic factors, North Press reported al-Naser.
The SDC organized a seminar under the title “Struggle to Defeat the Violence and Occupation,” at its headquarters and it was attended by officials of the Autonomous Administration and feminist activists from the city.
The seminar presented a series of violations that Syrian women had during the years of war, and the negative impact of military interference in Syria on them.
The seminar also dealt with the suffering of displacement and loss of breadwinners that Syrian women have experienced in recent years.
Feminist activists in northeast Syria are organizing seminars, marches and activities to discuss violence against women and the effects of the war on them, which coincide with the approach of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, marking November 25 of each year.
