Civilian killed in Syria’s Daraa countryside

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A civilian was killed yesterday night as a result of being shot by unknown attackers in the town of al-Hirak, in the eastern countryside of Daraa, south Syria.

Unknown attackers directly fired at Ahmad Salah Menoukh al-Hariri after they raided his house in the town wounding him critically, local sources told North Press.

He was transferred to the National Hospital in the town where he succumbed to his injuries, the sources said.

Yesterday, Ahmad Ibrahim al-Zo’bi, known as Sanjar, “succumbed to his injuries after being wounded a day before during a shooting incident by unknown attackers in the town of al-Musayfrah in the eastern countryside of Daraa,” close sources from the victim said.

Before the Syrian government forces restored their control over the Syrian south in July 2018, al-Zo’bi operated within the ranks of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).

Although he had his condition settled and bore a settlement card, the government forces arrested al-Zo’bi in mid-2019 and released him in April 2021.

After being released, al-Zo’bi joint a group of the government military security in the town and worked with them until he died.

The family of the young man Waddah Oklah Suleiman al-Omari received “a death certificate stating that their son died under torture in Sednaya Prison of the government forces.”

“The 23-year-old al-Omari was arrested by the government forces in November 2020 while he was present in the city center of Daraa.

“He was transferred among several security apparatuses in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and then he was transferred to Sednayah Prison, where he died,” the sources added.

Meanwhile, mayor of Nemr town, in the western countryside of Daraa, Qasem al-Naser, was subjected to an assassination attempt, yesterday, after an IED was planted in his car.

“The IED exploded before al-Naser got in the car causing the damage of his car reporting no casualties,” a local source said.
