Syrian goods to be exempted from customs duties: Russia
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – More than 60% of Syrian exports to Russia are currently exempt from customs duties, and soon all of them will be exempt, Deputy Director of International Cooperation for Russian Customs, Vladimir Viktorovich, said on Wednesday.
This came during a meeting that had representatives of the Syrian and Russian Customs Directorates today at the Conferences Palace in Damascus.
The Ministry of Economy had asked Russia to exempt Syrian exports to Russia from customs duties for one year, the official al-Thawra newspaper in Damascus said last March.
The Russian side said it would study the request and respond to it as soon as possible, the newspaper added.
The Syrian and Russian Customs directorates signed yesterday a road map for joint customs cooperation with the aim of promoting trade and facilitating the movement of goods between the two countries.
The Russian and Syrian sides agreed on an action plan in terms of combating smuggling and customs crimes, as part of the agenda of the joint meeting to follow up on the work of the Return of Refugees conference, according to SANA.
