Turkish-backed factions arbitrary arrest residents of Syria’s Afrin
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Turkish Intelligence and the affiliated armed factions arrested several residents of Afrin on different charges last week.
Muhammad Najjar, from the village of Bahdina in the northern countryside of Afrin, was arrested on November 11.
An armed group led by the so called Abu Ali Sheikh al-Hadid, arrested Najjar on charge of being wanted people for the Turkish-backed Levant Front faction, North Press Reported local sources.
He was released after paying $1,500 as a ransom to the faction, the sources said.
At the same day, the Turkish-backed Military Police arrested the elderly Muhammad Ahmad Omar, and he was not released until he paid $ 4,000 to the faction.
The 60-year-old Omar is from the Village of Kakhera in the countryside of Afrin.
In a similar incident, the Turkish Intelligence arrested Jiwan Sheikh Ahmad on charge of dealing with the Autonomous Administration previously, without revealing information about his fate till now, according to what local sources told North Press.
The 33-year-old Jiwan is from the village of Sheikh of Rajo District in the countryside of Afrin.
Since Turkish-backed armed factions took control over Afrin in March of 2018, they keep up committing systematic violations against civilians in the city and its surrounding. They kill, loot, arrest and change the area demographically.
On November 6, the Turkish intelligence arrested Jiwan Hikmat Selko and Abdo Ahmad Aliko, from southwestern countryside of Afrin accusing them of dealing with the Autonomous Administration in the past, a local source told North Press.
The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.
The Afrin region has been witnessing cases of killing, kidnapping and arrest, in addition to frequent bombings, amid the inability of the factions controlling it to settle the security in the region.
