SDC holds seminar for intellectuals on latest developments in northeast Syria

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – In a seminar held on Tuesday, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) briefed the intellectuals of Raqqa and Tabqa on matters that have recently been raised about doubts and statements regarding the handover of areas to the Syrian government.

Today, the SDC held a seminar under the title “The Intellectual and the Prospects for a Political Solution in Syria” in the city of Raqqa, north Syria.

“The seminar discussed the role of the intellectuals in the political work in Syria,” Jiyan Mulla Mahmoud, a member of the SDC Presidential Committee, said.

“The role of intellectuals in the society, however, was marginalized in the past period,” Mallah Mahmoud added.

“We previously held seminars for tribes, society categories, and figures of the Autonomous Administration institutions and others. It is time for the intellectuals now,” North press reported Malla Mahmoud.

The seminar was held in the Merry Land Park in the city of Raqqa, and was attended by intellectuals, politicians from the cities of Raqqa and Tabqa, and civil activists.

Two axes were discussed in the seminar, the role of intellectuals in the political work, and the necessity of expressing and listening to their opinions by officials and decisionmakers in northeast Syria.

Abdurrahman al-Issa, a political researcher and member of the Raqqa Intellectuals Union, welcomed the step of the SDC to open the way for the intellectuals to express their views openly on several issues.

“Some categories in the areas run by the Autonomous Administration are still somewhat away from the political and administrative life in the region,” He told North Press.
