Çavuşoğlu in Tehran preparing for Erdogan’s visit to Iran

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amirabdollahian in Tehran.

Amirabdollahian hoped that the future visit of the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iran may witness signing a road map between the two countries.

“Iran and Turkey will continue high-level diplomatic talks to draft a “long-term cooperation road map to boost ties,” he announced.

“We coordinate with Iran on Afghanistan and Syria, and we can cooperate on Iraq,” Çavuşoğlu said at the press conference held by the two parties.

It is the first visit of Çavuşoğlu to Iran after Amirabdollahian took office as Iranian Foreign Minister.

The two ministers stressed the strengthening of their countries’ economic and trade relations. “Iran and Turkey’s relations are historical, and we are working to strengthen relations between the two countries,” Amirabdollahian noted.

Earlier, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that during the visit, all aspects of bilateral relations will be discussed, as well as an exchange of views on regional and international issues.

The talks touched on Iran’s relations with Saudi Arabia, ways to reach a dialogue between the two parties, and the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue in Vienna.

Regarding the nuclear issue, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi would visit Iran soon.

This comes as Iran prepares to resume negotiations with the major world powers at the end of this month to revive its nuclear agreement.
