Students of Syria’s Kobani University send symbolic message to UN
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Students of Kobani University, north Syria, sent a message to the United Nations and the international community in order to support peace in their region and protect them from the Turkish threats.
This came on the occasion of the World Science Day for Peace and Development, which marks the tenth of November each year.
University students joined the “Clean Up the World” campaign, a global environmental campaign that was started in Australia in 1993, to promote and encourage environmental awareness and discussion of pollution and associated issues.
“Clean Up the World” was established in 1993 and is held in partnership with The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment).
The students of Kobani University participated in the “Clean Up the World” campaign, which is carried out by most countries of the world during the current month of each year, with the aim of delivering a symbolic message calling for concern for the environment, said Ismail Khaled, who is in charge of student activities at Kobani University.
“The second event is to deliver a message to the United Nations, the international community and the whole world, on the World Science Day for Peace and Development, that Kobani University is an academic center that cares about science and culture and calls for peace,” North Press reported Khaled.
Khaled indicated that “the aim of the message is to request protection from the international community to stop the continuous Turkish violations of the areas of northeast Syria, especially targeting civil cars and occupying some areas in northeast Syria.”
“The activity included placing white roses by about 250 students of Kobani University in the place where a civil car was targeted in Kobani, and forming a symbolic image that represents the symbol of the world peace,” he said.
“The students of the university took part in the cleanup campaign in the university and the surrounding areas,” said Amal Kenno, a first-year student in the Geography Department at Kobani University.
“The second activity is to support peace on the World Science Day for Peace and Development by forming a circular symbol for peace, visiting the place where civilians were targeted by Turkish drones, and placing white flowers at the site of the bombing as an expression of students’ support for peace in the region,” Kenno added.
