Syria’s Kobani politicians call for negotiation with Damascus against Turkish threats
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – Activating the Syrian Kurdish position and holding negotiations with the Syrian government is the only way to stop the continuous Turkish threats against Syria’s north and east, politicians of Kobani, north Syria, said on Tuesday.
Talks with the Syrian government are completely halted currently since the latter is not serious and still holds on to the pre-2011 mindset, co-chair of the AANES Department of Foreign Relations, Abdulkarim Omar, said on Sunday.
Russian presence in the region can create a balance and has to put Damascus under pressure in order to solve the Syrian crisis, head of Future Syria Party Council of Manbij branch, Azab al-Aboud, said yesterday.
The Turkish threats against areas of Syria’s northeast have increased limitlessly since no Kurdish political position has been reached, Kobani-based politician, Omar Youssef, said.
“We see that it is necessary to unify the Kurdish movement as soon as possible and reach Kurdish forces and Syrian national powers in addition to the international powers including the US and Russia in order to stop these threats,” he added.
He expressed his opinion saying that negotiations with the Syrian government is necessary in order to fend off the threats against the region although it is influenced by regional and international powers that make the government unable to decide.
Russia is an important player in Syria and can stop the Turkish threats, according to Youssef.
Areas in Syria’s northeast have been witnessing military and political escalation recently, Kobani-based politician, Ismat Ibrahim, said.
In mid-September, a delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) visited the Russian capital Moscow after heading to the US capital Washington in conjunction with the onset of the works of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
The Russians can play a major role in developing the dialogue between the SDC and the regime if they want to, provided that they act as real guarantors of this dialogue and its results,” SDC co-chair Amina Omar said at the time.
“We know that there is an American-Russian agreement to solve the Syrian issue with northeast Syria maintaining its privacy,” Ibrahim said.
“Since there are different communities and ethnicities there.”
The only way to stop the Turkish threats is to bring the Syrian government and AANES together, according to the politician.
AANES and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have to continue their diplomatic work in order to build decentralized, democratic, and pluralistic Syria, he added.
