QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli authorities closed the air space yesterday and banned the civil flightsover the Syrian Golan Heights in the wake of Israeli air raids that targeted two military positions in Syria’s Homs city and Tartus port.
“The Israeli air aggression targeted some posts in the coastal and central regions. The aggression wounded two soldiers and caused some material damage,” Syrian state-run news agency SANA, said.
“The Syrian army air defenses repelled to the missiles of the aggression,” SANA added.
Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC) said the Israeli authorities closed the air space and banned the civil flights over Golan Heights without mentioning any further details.
IPBC pointed that this decision followed Israel aircrafts hovering over the Lebanese capital Beirut towards the Syrian territories.
A Lebanese citizen woman was injured and several houses were damaged in Hermel area in northern Lebanon due to shrapnel from the interception of Israeli missiles by Syrian air defenses, the Lebanese national news agency said.
Israel has conducted hundreds of air raids in Syria in the last few years directly targeting positions of Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed factions notably the Lebanese Hezbollah.
Israel hardly ever mentions carrying out any attacks in Syria, yet the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealed in an annual statistics report that it launched around 50 attacks on targets located in Syria over 2020, giving no further details.
