Infighting between Turkish-backed factions leaves wounds in Syria’s Tel Abyad

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, three members of the Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition factions were wounded by gunmen of one of the opposition factions in the Tel Abyad area, north Syria.

Gunmen, belonging to al-Majd faction, attacked the members of the Military Police with automatic weapons, after setting up an ambush for them in the countryside of Tel Abyad, North Press reported an informed source.

The ambush was carried out in the village of Tel Fender, 6 km west of the city of Tel Abyad, the source added.

The ambush was preceded by clashes that took place between them yesterday in front of the Ain al-Arous bakery over the bread, according to the source.

Three military police cars were targeted in the ambush. As a result, three members were wounded and the entire patrol members were arrested. The wounded were transported to Tel Abyad National Hospital, said the source.

The region has witnessed, for a while, security and military tensions between the factions due to disputes over fuel and bread.

The areas under the control of the Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition factions in northeastern Syria have witnessed a state of security chaos amid the inability of the controlling forces to settle security in the region.

The Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed factions have been running Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad since late 2019 following an attack displacing thousands of people.
