QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – China pledged to support Syria’s reconstruction and enhance cooperation with it in other realms such as security.
This came in phone call between Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping yesterday.
In the phone conversation, president Xi called for joint efforts to defend international equity and justice, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
“I believe that Syria will overcome various risks and challenges and achieve new victories in the struggle to defend independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” Xi said.
While al-Assad stressed Syria’s efforts to develop ties between the government institutions in both countries, particularly with the development of security situation in most regions, and at the same time, accessing to the Belt and Road Initiative, which constitutes a road for economy and development.
Al-Assad thanked China for the large assistance it offered to Syria during years of war.
The Chinese president expressed China’s further support to Syria regarding COVID-19 pandemic as well as in Syrian reconstruction and development.
China has supported the Syrian regime during the 10-year-war, which destroyed the country’s infrastructure, displaced and refuged hundreds of thousands, and left thousands of detainees, missing, and causalities.
