Government and Iranian militias militants killed in Syria’s Palmyra
SUKHNA, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, seven militants of Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias were killed in two separate attacks in central Syria.
“ISIS targeted a military point of the Iranian-backed Liwa al-Baqir in the center of the town of Sukhna, with machine guns. An armed clash followed that attack and lasted for more than an hour,” a military source of the government forces told North Press.
“Two members, one from the city of Palmyra and the other from the city of Tartus, were killed in the attack,” the source added.
The source, who preferred not to be named, added, the government forces and Iranian-backed militias brought in military reinforcements to comb the area after the militants ran away.
In a similar incident, five members were killed at the entrance to the city of Palmyra in central Syria when a patrol of the government forces and the Lebanese Hezbollah was attacked on Sunday afternoon.
“A joint patrol of the government’s Fourth Division and the Lebanese Hezbollah was fired from heavy machine guns mounted on four-wheel drive vehicles and raising the banners of the Islamic State (ISIS) at the entrance to the city of Palmyra in eastern Syria,” a military source of the Fourth Division said.
“The clash resulted in the killing of five members of the Fourth Division, while the attackers retreated towards the depth of the desert,” He told North Press.
“The patrol was heading from the city of Homs to the T-4 military airport, west of Palmyra, carrying senior officials of the Lebanese Hezbollah,” according to the source.
“All the dead were Syrians of the government forces,” the source confirmed.
Recently, the Syrian Badia has been witnessing a great activity of ISIS sleeper cells, as the region has witnessed fierce battles with ISIS, and dozens of deaths have been recorded over the past two months, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Source.
