QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Abdallah Hamdok, Prime Minister of Sudan called all the Sudanese to resist the ongoing military coup, hold to peaceful movement and go out to the streets and occupy them.
In the early hours of Monday, a series of arrests took place in the capital Khartoum. Ministers of the transitional government and leaderships from Declaration of Freedom and Change Movement were detained. In addition, the Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok was under house arrest.
“Hamdok urged the Sudanese to hold to peace and occupy the streets to defend their revolution,” Sudan’s Information Ministry stated.
In another statement, the ministry said the joint military forces that put Hamdok under house arrest press him to release statements to support the coup.
Military forces, composed of several branches, detained the Minister of Information Hamza Baloul, the Minister of Industry Ibrahim al-Sheikh, the DFCF leader Khalid Omar Youssef and other political and partisan figures as well as civilians members of the Ruling Transitional Council, according to Sky News.
Military forces stormed the house of the media advisor to the PM Faisal Mohammed Saleh and arrested him.
Secretary of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party Ali al-Rih al-Sanhori were among the detainees.
“Joint military forces arrested civilian members of the Ruling Transitional Council in addition to other ministers,” Sudan’s Information Ministry stated.
Military forces closed roads and bridges in the capital Khartoum and blocked highways to the main cities.
Media outlets reported the Internet was cut in the capital and military forces closed bridges and tunnels.
On the other hand, protesters blocked some roads in Khartoum city and set fires in the street refusing the campaign of arrests.
The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors announced a strike at hospitals except for the emergency conditions.
Doctors withdraw from hospitals affiliated with the military forces. The Committee also called vocational sectors to take to the streets.
“We highly condemn the ongoing coup and the arrests because they violate the Sudanese constitutional pact,” the Nation Political Party said.
The recent accelerating developments came hours after the USA announced proposals to solve the political crisis in Sudan.
Two days ago, Jeffrey Feltman, the US special envoy for the Horn of Africa, met with several leaders in the Ruling Transitional Council.
