Tribal figures killed, injured in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR-EZ ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, unknown individuals killed a tribal figure and injured a sheikh by targeting their car in a town in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A source from the tribe of al-Bu Salih of al-Baqara tribe in the town of al-Buhamid 75 km, west of Deir ez-Zor, said that unknown persons riding a motorbike opened fire at the car of the sheikh of the tribe, Muhammad al-Badr.

As a result, the sheikh was injured in his shoulder and his brother, Hamid al-Badr, who was with him in the car, died.

The gunmen ran away after the incident, according the source.

The sheikh was transported to a hospital in Raqqa for treatment, and he is in good condition, according to the source citing a doctor from the town.

Recently, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing assassination of SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures, and civilians.

ISIS issued a statement four months ago, through media closed to it, saying that it would kill every tribal sheikh and figure dealing with the SDF.

In December 2020, the SDF arrested the so-called Abu al-Bara’ who was accused of killing the sheikh of the town of al-Hawayij, Talyous Alafi, and one of al-Akidat tribe notable, in the countryside.
