Government forces continue bombing opposition sites, northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Syrian government forces bombed Turkish-backed armed opposition factions’ sites in the countryside of Idlib and Hama, northwest Syria.
In the evening, the armed opposition factions’ sites in the town of Besames in Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, were bombed with Russian Krasnopol missiles by the government forces, opposition sources told North Press.
The vicinity of the village of Zaqum was also shelled with heavy artillery by the government forces, the sources added.
The bombing mainly targeted the areas on the contact lines with the opposition factions, without reports of casualties, amid intense flight of Russian and Iranian drones over the area, according to the sources.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
