More towns in Syria’s Daraa eastern countryside join settlements
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, residents of al-Lajat region, northeast of Daraa, south Syria, were handed over a list of names of dozens of residents who the government forces want to settle their status.
The Lajat region is located northeast of Daraa, on the triangle between the areas of Daraa, Suwayda and Rif Dimashq.
The residents of the Lajat met yesterday with the Security Committee of the government forces in the city of Daraa, local sources told North Press.
The residents of the region were given a list of 158 names, distributed over a number of towns and villages in the Lajat region, the sources added.
It should be known that the Lajat is the cradle of the first faction of the opposition Free Syrian Army in 2011.
The majority of people wanted for settlement had their status settled at the end of 2018, according to the sources.
The settlement of “the wanted people in the Lajat region will start next Saturday in the town of Mahja, North Press was told by Security sources.
These steps come as a continuation of the agreement held in early September between the Central Committee and the government forces brokered by Russia.
On September 5, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, in the presence of a number of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security points in the towns of Daraa governorate.
Daraa was subjected to a suffocating siege imposed by Iranian-backed factions and the government forces for more than two months. Finally, an agreement was reached between the parties to the conflict brokered by Russia on a ceasefire and the entry of government forces into the besieged neighborhoods.
