We will rely on local forces to combat terrorism: Biden
WASHINGTON, US (North Press) – On Tuesday, the US President, Joe Biden, said that the US will continue to view terrorism and extremism as an existential enemy for the United States, which will spare no effort to combat it, with a focus on partnership with local forces to avoid the need to send large numbers of forces to outside wars.
In his address at the opening of the UN General Assembly, Biden briefly touched on the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, and considered that “instead of continuing to fight the wars of the past, let us reform our world and dedicate our resources to the challenges of the future.”
“We are opening a new era of relentless diplomacy, of using the power of our development aid to invest in new ways of lifting people up around the world,” he added.
He pointed out that Washington will focus its foreign policies on the areas that are most important to it, such as the Indo-Pacific region.
He also announced the US intention to return to the UNHRC after the administration of former President Donald Trump withdrew from it in 2018.
The US President stated that the US will defend its interests in every way, but “we are not seeking a new Cold War or a world divided into rigid blocs.”
He stressed the need for the international community to come together to combat the challenges of the 21st century “through diplomatic means and leave military force as the last option in facing challenges.”
The big part of the US President’s speech was devoted to talking about the Covid-19 epidemic and the international response to combat it, as he said: “Our common grief over the death of four and a half million people in the world due to the Covid-19 epidemic is a reminder to us that our future will depend on our ability to work together.”
He indicated that most of the problems of our current time, such as climate change and epidemics, “cannot be solved with bombs and bullets.”
Biden mentioned that America’s investment in combating climate change and achieving the goal of reducing greenhouse emissions will create huge opportunities to work in new jobs with high salaries capable of stimulating the economy, encouraging the international community to take concrete steps in developing green infrastructure and electric vehicles.
