Official in Syria’s Hasakah countryside warns lack of awareness during COVID-19
SHADDADI, Syria (North Press) – Despite the outbreak of coronavirus and the emergence of many infected cases in northeast Syria, there are many people in the city and its countryside still indifferent to the virus, a health official in the city of Shaddadi, south of Hasakah, said.
“Recklessness, lack of awareness, and failure to adhere to the preventative measures led to the outbreak of the virus on a large scale,” Tariq al-Kere’i, head of the Health Committee in Shaddadi, told North Press.
He added that in the event that any of the residents of the city or its countryside had symptoms of coronavirus, they keep it quiet for fear of quarantine.
Al-Kere’i pointed out that, in the past few days, they distributed awareness brochures about the risks and symptoms of coronavirus among the residents and in the markets.
The city lacks quarantine centers, and in case of the existence of any infections, they inform the emergency team in Hasakah to take swabs and transfer patients there, but in the current days they have not seen any infected or suspected cases, according to al-Kere’i.
Al-Kere’i called on residents to adhere to the personal preventative measures to prevent the spread of the infection, and “those who show symptoms, should head to the health center in the city.”
Todays, the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced the record of 171 new coronavirus infections and four deaths in northeast Syria’s areas.
