Government forces target opposition factions in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday evening, the Syrian government forces’ bombing against opposition factions’ positions in the countryside of Idlib, Hama and Latakia, northwest Syria, continued, causing material damage to the homes of residents.
A source of the opposition factions told North Press that the government forces, stationed in the city of Kafranbel, renewed their missile and artillery shelling on the towns of al-Fatira, Sfuhun, and Kansafra in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib.
Similar shelling with heavy artillery shells and rocket launchers targeted the factions’ positions on the axes of the town of al-Mashik, in the Ghab Plain area in the western countryside of Hama, and other fortifications on the axes of al-Tuffahiya and Qal’at Shanbar, north of Latakia, according to the same source.
The source pointed out that the bombing resulted in the destruction of private properties, as a result of targeting residential neighborhoods.
Earlier today, the Russian warplanes targeted the vicinity of the towns of al-Bara and Kansafra, in the Zawiya Mountain in the southern countryside of Idlib, with high-explosive vacuum missiles and eight airstrikes.
The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020; however, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
