Unidentified persons target military checkpoint in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, unidentified persons believed to be affiliated with ISIS cells targeted a military checkpoint near a post of the Fifth Corps in the al-Masrib desert in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which is under the control of government forces.

The targeting seriously wounded three members of the Fifth Corps, who were immediately transferred to the hospital in the town of al-Tabni in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor for treatment, a military source told North Press.

“The targeting was carried out with two RPGs while the members were present at the checkpoint,” the source added.

Since this morning, al-Masrib desert has witnessed an alert of the government forces in general and the Fifth Corps members in particular, to look for those targeted the checkpoint, who are believed to be ISIS cells, according to the source.

The targeting is the fourth that was carried out by unknown persons against the sites of government forces and their loyal factions in the desert of Deir ez-Zor, in light of preparations to launch a large-scale combing campaign in the area with Russian support and supervision.
