Young men from Syria’s Daraa arrested in front Damascus Embassy in Beirut

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, four young men from the governorate of Daraa, south Syria, were arrested in Damascus government embassy in Beirut, bringing the number to five Syrian arrestees in the embassy.

The young men were arrested in front of the Damascus Embassy in Beirut after an employee in the embassy called informing them to come in order to receive passports that they applied for previously, according to al-Arabi al-Jadid website.

Although the young men, who hail from the city of Inkhil, north of Daraa, were opposition fighters before 2018, they joined the Eighth Brigade of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps after the settlement agreement. However, as a result of tough living conditions and cessation of their monthly salaries, they headed to Lebanon, according to al-Arabi al-Jadid.

This incident came two days after a former official in the opposition factions in Daraa, Tawfiq Fayz al-Haji, was kidnapped in front of the Damascus Embassy in Beirut, according to Ahrar Houran Gathering.
