Government forces besiege Jassim city in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Government forces besieged the city of Jasim in the northern countryside of Daraa after bringing huge military reinforcements to the vicinity of the city on Sunday and failing to storm the city.

Local sources told North Press that the government forces brought military reinforcements to the vicinity of the city.

The reinforcements included more than 100 militants, armored vehicles, cannons, and military vehicles.

When the government forces tried to storm the city, local residents confronted them, forcing them to retreat and withdraw from a farm through which the former had previously entered the northern part of the city, the sources added.

Government forces brought in massive military reinforcements to Tel al-Mohas overlooking the city, and also closed all sub-roads and agricultural roads leading to it.

Jasim, with a population of around 70,000, is one of the biggest cities in the northern countryside of Daraa.

Daraa city is witnessing relative calm after an unannounced truce between government forces and the Central Committee, which ends on Monday, according to a source in the Central Committee.
