QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – “The continuation of the closure of Tel Kocher crossing will exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in northeast Syria,” co-chair of the Health Board Jiwan Mustafa said on Monday.
On Friday, the United Nations Security Council issued a decision to extend the mechanism of the entry of humanitarian aid through Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey into northwest Syria in two stages, each lasting for six months, without adding any other crossings.
A year ago, Yaroubiyah crossing was closed by the UN Security Council decision under Russian-Chinese veto, limiting the entry of aid only to Bab al-Hawa on the Turkish-Syrian border.
“The humanitarian crisis in northeast Syria will escalate, especially after reaching advanced levels due to the siege imposed on the area from all directions by Turkey and the Syrian regime, and the continuation of closing this crossing will exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in northeast Syria,” Mustafa said.
Mustafa added that politicizing this humanitarian issue “will usher in a new phase for which the people are not ready.”
The co-chair of the Health Board indicated that the decision will compel many international organizations to deal with the Damascus government, which politicizes the aid issue.
