Explosion of ISIS ordnance causes damage in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The fall of an unknown shell on a garden of a house in the center of the city of Hajin in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, on Thursday led to several explosions, which a local military source interpreted as the presence of weapons hidden by the remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) at the site.
The fall of the shell triggered a series of explosions in an orchard in al-Ishrin neighborhood, which caused material damage to surrounding houses in addition to a fire, said an eyewitness in the city of Hajin, 110 km east of Deir ez-Zor.
The explosions caused fear among the residents of the neighborhood, especially the houses near the site of the explosion, the source added.
A local military source suggested that the place where the shell fell was a weapons depot left by ISIS.
Recently, the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has witnessed the fall of unknown shells on lands and neighborhoods in different areas.
In mid-December 2018, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, took control of Hajin after expelling ISIS militants from it.
In March 2019, the SDF took control of the town of al-Baghouse, the last stronghold of the organization in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
On Wednesday, the media center of the Syrian Democratic Forces said that the fight against ISIS is still strongly continuing, though it has no control on the ground.
