Turkey aims at striking safety, stability in Syria’s Manbij: Manbij Military Council
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Turkey aims, through its frequent bombardments, to damage safety and stability in the city of Manbij, north Syria, since its liberation, Manbij Military Council spokesman Shervan Darwish said on Thursday.
Darwish explained, “Turkey did not like the stablility and safety that has spread in the city over the past five years. That is why it is trying by all means to strike the stability of the city, whether from the inside through explosions or by targeting the frontlines from the outside.”
In August 2016, the forces of the Manbij Military Council, supported by the Global Coalition, took Manbij city after expelling ISIS.
“The recent Turkish escalation was different from before, as it has been continuing for ten days on a daily basis,” Darwish added.
Turkey used medium and heavy weapons, leaving wounded and material damage, he pointed out.
The ones most affected by the Turkish shelling are civilians, who live in a state of “real horror” due to the large number of indiscriminate attacks.
In early July, the Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed factions targeted the village of Awn al-Dadat, north of Manbij, with approximately 11 mortar shells, seriously wounding two women and causing material damage in the village.
“We, as the Manbij Military Council, have the right to defend our regions within the framework of legitimate defense. We are the sons of Manbij, and it is our priority to defend it and not allow Turkey to occupy an inch of it,” Darwish stated.
He pointed out that all international players “are present and closely monitoring the situation in Manbij, and the closest of which is the Russian guarantor, whom we demand take a clear position and put an end to Turkey’s ambitions to occupy more Syrian areas, because that contradicts international laws and values.”
