Biden warns of attacking SDF areas: HDP representative in Washington
WASHINGTON, US (North Press) – Representative of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in Washington, DC, Jiran Ozkan, said, he got some information from the White House that the US president Joe Biden demanded his Turkish and Russian counterparts not to attack the Democratic Syrian Forces-held areas.
Biden warned Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that his administration considers the escalation in the SDF areas as a “red line”.
Ozkan’s statement came in an exclusive interview with the Washington Online show, from Washington, DC.
During their meeting with the delegation of HDP in Washington, officials in the White House stressed on the Biden’s interest in the Kurds’ issue especially in Syria and the partnership with SDF, according to Ozkan.
During the interview, Ozkan told Washington Online, which is broadcasted by the North Plus network, that the American interest in establishing security and stability in northeast Syria “continues and efforts are being made to establish political stability.”
He referred to the military and security effort “so that the stability includes all aspects of life in the region where the ISIS was defeated.”
Regarding the Turkish attacks on areas in Iraq where the PKK is present, Ozkan said, this matter does not receive much attention by Biden’s administration, which is trying to distance itself from it.
Ozkan added that Erdogan was the initiator to meet with Biden specially the bilateral meeting that was attended only by Biden, Erdogan and the interpreters.
He pointed out that Erdogan wanted to talk about “sensitive” issues that he did not want any of the Turkish officials surrounding him to hear about, because Erdogan’s influence and political situation inside Turkey is not stable due to the bad economic situation.
Ozkan also talked about the political alliances that Erdogan made in Turkey which mainly depend on gang men and the most extremist groups.
He stated that these alliances are never helpful in establishing peace and political stability, especially with regard to Turkish-Kurdish reconciliation.
Ozkan indicated that the Turkish gangs have become a close ally to Erdogan, referring to a recent crime at the headquarters of the HDP, where a member of the party was killed in cold blood and in broad daylight, which heralds a bleak future for Turkey.
