Iraqi refugee shot dead in Syria’s Hawl Camp
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, unidentified persons, thought to be affiliated with ISIS, killed an Iraqi refugee in Hawl Camp, northeast Syria.
The body of the Iraqi refugee, Basman Ahmed Ghanim, was found on Tuesday evening in the third sector of the camp, with bullet wounds in the head and face, a security source from the camp told North Press.
On Tuesday, some extremist women in al-Muhajirat (immigrant women) section tried to kill a Russian woman in the camp.
It is noteworthy that this is the third attempt of killings in the camp after the security campaign, the last of which was the killing of an Iraqi refugee by unknown assailants, on May 8.
In late March, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) with support from SDF began a security and humanitarian campaign in Hawl Camp, in which dozens of wanted and crime committers were arrested.
At that time, the Asayish issued a statement saying that ISIS sleeper cells had killed 47 people from the camp during the current year, 2021.
The statement added that Hawl Camp has long been a real problem and a serious danger to the region and the world, as it houses more than 60,000 people, including large numbers of children, who are supporters and family members of ISIS.
