Local association supports children of war victims in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press)On Tuesday, Amal Association started an activity in its headquarters in Qamishli, northeast Syria, which was attended by 55 children of families of war victims from regions surrounding Qamishli.  

During the activity, the association distributed school stationary to the children, who lost their parents in the war, as a psychological support.

The package of the stationary provided by Amal Association included sketchbook, notebooks, crayons, rubbers, pencil sharpeners and files.

Amal Association is a non-government local association that was newly set up and concerns with taking care of women and children of families of the war victims.

“Those children have lost the parents during war. We are trying to support them psychologically as far as possible,” head of the association, Roza Youssef, told North Press.  

“We seek to organize activities for those children to support them so that they can complete their studies and improve their skills,” she added.

Youssef called on the international organizations such as UNICEF to support these children to pass these difficult situations and to ensure a better future for them.

UNICEF is a UN agency dedicated to children, and it is authorized by the world governments to enhance and protect the children’s rights and welfares, and it is active in 158 countries around the world.  

Adnan Khalil, executive director of Purity Organisation, said, they provide support for such activities to support children, which may be a model and be repeated in more than one region.

Purity Organisation is a local humanitarian organization that activates throughout northeast Syria and works to provide support to civil society affected by the armed conflict in Syria.

“Any organization or association interested in supporting this group of society, we will try to be supportive or mediators between it and the international actors,” he added to north Press. 

He pointed out that the majority of organizations focus on supporting the camps, “but in fact this group is also existed within the host community, so we will try to support camps, detention centers and civil society.”
