Turkish gendarmerie tortures Syrian young man from Idlib to death
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Turkish border guards (gendarmerie) tortured to death a Syrian young man from the countryside of Idlib while trying to enter the Turkish territory illegally.
The 20-year-old young man, Hassan Muhammad al-Fitan, died as a result of being cruelly beaten and tortured by the Turkish gendarmerie, local sources told North Press.
The Turkish gendarmerie threw al-Fitan near al-Alani crossing on the Syrian-Turkish border, while he was still alive. Although the residents took him to the hospital, he died of his wounds, the sources added.
On April 20, Basel Hamdo Haj Mousa, a young man from the village of Bazabur, south of Idlib, was also tortured to death by the Turkish gendarmerie.
Since there are no open crossings between Syria and Turkey, residents resort to dangerous smuggling routes to enter Turkey, either to reunite their families or in search of job opportunities.
Activists told North Press that Turkish border guards deliberately shoot civilians trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border.
Dozens of civilians, who try to enter Turkey, are arrested every day and tortured cruelly, in addition to being detained for long hours, according to activists.
