Turkish forces prevent IDPs from Syria’s south from entering al-Bab
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces have reportedly prevented buses carrying displaced people from southern Syria, which is under the control of the Syrian government, to the city of al-Bab, which is under the control of Turkish-backed opposition militias.
On Thursday, government forces deported nearly 100 wanted individuals from the village of Umm Batnah in the countryside of Quneitra, southwest Syria, to Syria’s north under Russian auspices.
According to the Enab Baladi website, the buses passed a government checkpoint at the Abu al-Zendin crossing in the city of al-Bab, northeast of Aleppo, but were not allowed to pass a checkpoint manned by the Turkish-backed groups.
Neither the opposition groups nor Turkish forces have commented on the incident, and media sources blamed the error on “lack of coordination.”
So far, dozens of individuals, including children, are still sleeping outside, without any solutions proposed to allow them to either enter the city or send them to another area.
