Russia mediates meeting between Asayish, government in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday at noon, representatives from the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and others from the Syrian government met in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, to discuss security issues in al-Tai neighborhood.
The meeting was held in Qamishli airport under Russian mediation, and it has not finished yet, an exclusive source told North Press.
Over the past few hours the city witnessed relative calm following violent clashes on Friday morning.
This comes after the failure of previous Russian and civil mediation and the assassination of an Asayish member, a tribal leader, and the killing of a child from the city by the National Defense Forces (NDF).
Since Tuesday, al-Tai neighborhood, which was a stronghold of the pro-Syrian government NDF members, has been witnessing violent clashes with medium and light weapons between Asayish and NDF.
Hours earlier, Sheikh Hayyes al-Jaryyan, a prominent figure of the Bani Saba’a tribe, was assassinated late Thursday night, succumbing to his wounds after he was targeted by snipers from the pro-government NDF while he was returning to his home after attending a meeting of a tribal delegation that proposed an initiative to stop the clashes in Qamishli.
On Thursday, ten-year old Abdulsalam Omar was killed by the targeting of the pro-Syrian government NDF near al-Wehda Roundabout in Qamishli, while others were wounded.
