Syria’s northeast records 8 deaths, 304 new coronavirus infections

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced the recording of 304 new coronavirus infections and 8 deaths in northeast Syria.

AANES’ Facebook page quoted Jiwan Mustafa, co-chair of the AANES Health Board, who stated that the deaths were three men in Qamishli, a man from Hasakah, one from Kobani, one from Shahba, a woman from Derik, and a woman from Manbij.  

Most of the infections today were concentrated in Qamishli 80 cases, Hasakah 30, Tabqa 54, Raqqa 53, Derik 35, Kobani 26, Manbij 10, Derbasiya 7, Hawl Camp 2, and Shahba regions in the northern countryside of Aleppo where Afrin IDPs reside in, 7.

Meanwhile, the AANES Health Board recorded 6 new recoveries.

With the announcement of these new cases, the number of people infected with coronavirus in the regions of northeast Syria has reached 13,883 confirmed cases, including 456 deaths and 1,436 recoveries.

This new toll comes on the sixth day of the complete lockdown imposed in the northeastern regions of Syria.

On April 12, the Health Board issued an urgent appeal to all international organizations, primarily the WHO, to immediately intervene and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in northeast Syria.
