Local military group formed in Syria’s Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, residents of the town of al-Qrayya, southeast Suwayda, formed a local armed group at the aim of protecting agricultural lands against abuses conducted by livestock breeders.

Late in March, several farmers from al-Qrayya closed the routes of the town demanding the government to find a solution to the abuses of the pro-Lebanese Hezbollah livestock owners on their agricultural lands.

Suwayda southern countryside have been witnessing security chaos for six months and residents are suffering due to the continuous abuses against their lands.

Rasmi Katbah (pseudonym), a young man from al-Qrayya joining the new group, told North Press that the group was formed to counter the successive abuses by Hezbollah-backed livestock breeders against the farmers.

“The new military group is not affiliated with any authority and its tasks are only to protect the farmers of the town,” he added.
