Syria’s northeast records 156 new coronavirus infections

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced the recording of 156 new coronavirus infections and a death case in northeast Syria.

AANES’ Facebook page quoted Jiwan Mustafa, co-chair of the AANES Health Board, who stated that the death case was a man from Kobani.

Most of the infections today, were concentrated in Qamishli 35 cases, Hasakah 49, Deir ez-Zor 32, Derik 29, Derbasiya 9, and Hawl Camp 2.

Meanwhile, the AANES Health Board recorded 8 new recoveries.

With the announcement of these new cases, the number of people infected with coronavirus in the regions of northeast Syria has reached 13,579 confirmed cases, including 448 deaths and 1,430 recoveries.

This new toll comes on the fifth day of the complete lockdown imposed in the northeastern regions of Syria.

On April 12, the Health Board issued an urgent appeal to all international organizations, primarily the WHO, to immediately intervene and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in northeast Syria.

After a complete lockdown in Qamishli, Hasakah and Raqqa, in addition to partial curfew in other AANES regions, a 10-day complete lockdown was imposed on all of northeast Syria’s regions starting from April 13 to 22.
