Coronavirus infections increase in Damascus amid neglecting preventative measures

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The third wave is still in its formation and is spreading, a member of the government team concerned with dealing with coronavirus pandemic told North Press on Saturday.

He denied any changes in the symptoms accompanying the virus, and stressed that they have stronger impact than the previous waves.

After the number of daily recorded cases decreased to nearly a hundred, it jumped to 158 infections yesterday.

The number of the infections increased during the past two days, being the biggest daily toll recorded during this month, according to the Facebook account of the Syrian Ministry of Health.

“This peak will end when the residents adhere by the preventative measures, otherwise the situation will get out of control,” the government member added.

“The residents are not committed today, as gatherings and parties are still ongoing and the residents are not cooperating,” he stressed.

“The rate of the deaths in Syria is high compared to its population especially among the youth, unlike the European countries of a high death rate among the elderly.”
