Autonomous Administration official kiled in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, an official in Deir ez-Zor Civil Council lost his life after being shot by unknown gunmen on al-Hkorafi route that connects Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor in east Syria.

The unknown attackers targeted the car of an official of the east Deir ez-Zor countryside councils, Zinar Kobani, who stopped due to car trouble in the Rowyished area, 50 kilometers from Hasakah, a local military source told North Press.

During the past few months, activities of the Islamic State (ISIS) have increased their targeting of tribal figures in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters, employees in the civil administration, and residents of Deir ez-Zor.

On  January 11, the president of the commune of the town of Abu Hardoub, 80 Km east Deir Ez-Zor, after being shot by unknown while he was passing on the main route in Shuhail.

SDF, with the support of the Global Coalition, conduct security campaigns against ISIS sleeper cells in the countryside of Deir az-Zor, Raqqa, and Hasakah.

On April 10, SDF fighters arrested an ISIS leader in Theban town in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

On Wednesday, a military source from the SDF said that their special forces with the aerial and ground support of the Global Coalition have launched a security operation to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor countryside.
