QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the anti-terror forces (HAT) of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested a member of an ISIS sleeper cell.
According to a Global Coalition source, the arrested man was part of an assassination cell that was responsible for an attack on an SDF base in Shuhail, near Syria’s Deir ez-Zor, and was also responsible for assassination attempts in Shuhail.
On Wednesday, the SDF announced the start of a security campaign to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in the Deir ez-Zor countryside; sources stated that the campaign was mostly taking place in Wadi al-Ajij in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing increasing activity of ISIS sleeper cells, who are targeting tribal figures, SDF members, and employees in the civil administration there. On Thursday, a displaced person was killed in Deir ez-Zor’s northern countryside, and on Friday, an Autonomous Administration official was assassinated in Rushawaid, 50 km north of Deir ez-Zor.
