Syria’s Autonomous Administration announces new coronavirus infections, deaths

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced the recording of 220 new coronavirus infections and 5 deaths in northeast Syria.

AANES’ Facebook page quoted Jiwan Mustafa, co-chair of the AANES Health Board, who stated that the deaths were one woman and a man from Qamishli, a woman and a man from Derik, and a man from Tabqa.

Most of the infections today, were concentrated in Qamishli 71 cases, Hasakah 47, Derik 50, Derbasiya 7, Raqqa 26, Deir ez-Zor 15, Hawl Camp 3, and Amuda 1.

Meanwhile, the AANES Health Board recorded 14 new recoveries.

With the announcement of these new cases, the number of people infected with coronavirus in the regions of northeast Syria has reached 13, 423 confirmed cases, including 447 deaths and 1,421 recoveries.

his new toll comes on the fourth day of the complete lockdown imposed in the northeastern regions of Syria.

On April 12, the Health Board issued an urgent appeal to all international organizations, primarily the WHO, to immediately intervene and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in northeast Syria.
